The number of patients with Covid-19 at Letterkenny University Hospital has taken another jump in the past 24 hours.
There are now 87 people with the virus receiving treatment onsite – an increase of eight since Sunday.
LUH has Ireland’s ninth highest number of Covid-19 cases.
As of 8pm last night, the hospital had three general care beds and one critical care bed available.
Eleven extra beds were opened on Sunday following a surge of Covid-19 admissions. The influx saw some patients waiting for hours in ambulances outside the building.
Letterkenny University Hospital has since apologised for the delays in admissions and the distress caused to patients. The huge effort of staff was acknowledged by management following the “extremely busy weekend”.
