Donegal man sent forward for trial following motorcyclist’s death

A Letterkenny man has been sent forward for trial charged with dangerous driving causing the death of a motorcyclist.

Brian Harkin, aged 75, appeared at Buncrana District Court where he was told he is to appear at the next sitting of Letterkenny Circuit Court on January 26th.

It follows the death of motorcyclist Eddie McIntyre on July 4th, 2018.

The 56-year-old was killed after his motorbike was in collision with a car on the R238 Burnfoot-Buncrana Road.

Mr McIntyre was a native of Fahan and was driving in the Castleforward area at the time of the collision.

He was rushed to Altnagelvin Hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later.

The accused, Mr Harkin of Loughnaginn, Letterkenny, was served with a book of evidence and given the alibi warning by Judge Paul Kelly.

Solicitor for the accused, Mr Frank Dorrian was granted free legal aid and requested one senior counsel for the trial.
