The cabinet has reportedly approved an agreement to get GPs and pharmacists to administer Covid-19 vaccines.
The €91million deal would see GPs and pharmacists giving vaccines to the public from next month.
Staff would be paid up to €60 per patient for a two-dose Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine or the AstraZeneca vaccine, which is due to be approved by EU regulatory authorities in the coming weeks. A fee of €35 would be paid for a single-dose vaccine.
It is reported that the plan would pay GPs to administer the vaccine in surgeries or in larger mass vaccination centres.
Up to 1.5 million people will be vaccinated under the plan, with priority given to the over 70s.
