Special needs group suffers major funding loss

A Donegal foundation is calling for urgent support after missing out on a major fundraiser for 2021.

The Bluestack Special Needs Foundation in Donegal Town is one of many services greatly impacted by the pandemic. The centre has suffered another immense loss this month with the cancellation of an annual fundraiser.

Due to COVID-19, they are unable to undertake their Annual Street / Church Gate collection which usually takes place on the 5th weekend of the year (30th and 31st January 2021). This is a loss worth over €16,000 to the organisation.

For a small charity that relies heavily on public donations, this is a significant setback in their goal of enhancing the lives of individuals with additional needs.

The Foundation has this week launched an appeal for support to lessen the impact of the loss.

Overcoming COVID Restrictions:

Despite the restrictions implemented by the Government, the Bluestack Special Needs Foundation have worked tirelessly throughout the year to ensure they could provide as many supports and services to individuals with additional needs, and their families.

During what can only be described as a difficult year for many, the team came up with some innovative ways to keep in touch with their members, whether it be through organising a drive by Easter Egg extravaganza, check-up phone calls, sensory bag drops to families in need, virtual messages from Santa, After-School services, Bluestack Shack training, or emergency respite.
