The first island graduation took place on Tory last weekend as local student Lauren Boyle celebrated her achievements in a special way during lockdown.
Letterkenny Institute of Technology (LYIT) graduations took a virtual route for the Class of 2020 as proceedings moved online due to restrictions. Graduands tuned in from around the world for conferring ceremonies on Friday.
Islander Lauren Boyle had spent the past four years studying Early Childhood Care, Health and Education, and when it came to becoming a graduate, there was nowhere else she’d rather be.

“We celebrated the day Tory style with some sean nós singing and music. As the old saying says, “ ag ól ceol agus damhsa go maidin”. We would be a very traditional family of singing Irish songs and playing music. Lauren really enjoyed having her graduation at home as she’s a real home bird.
“It was a lovely day and we made the most of it considering these strange times.”
Congratulations Lauren and to all the Class of 2020.
