Donegal man gets suspended sentence for possession of drugs

A DONEGAL man found in possession of drugs has been given a suspended sentence.

29-year-old Ben Quinn appeared at Letterkenny District Court in connection with an incident on March 24 2018.

Quinn was found in possession of a quantity of cannabis and a diazepam tablet at an address in Cathedral Hill, Raphoe.

Quinn had an address at The Commons, Lifford, when charged. The Court was told that Quinn was now residing at an address in Northern Ireland under direction from a court in that jurisdiction.

Quinn told Judge Paul Kelly that he was awaiting trial in Northern Ireland on a charge of conspiracy to supply drugs.

“It is quite a substantive matter,” Sergeant Jim Collins noted.

Quinn’s solicitor, Mr Frank Dorrian, said: “He tells me that he has cleaned up his act.

“The facts here speak for themselves. He had a smell amount of cannabus and the diazepam was on prescription, although not prescribed to him.

He is living a quiet life in the Waterside in Derry and he is here to deal with this as effectively as he can.”

Judge Pail Kelly took the possession of diazepam into consideration.

For the possession of cannabis, Judge Kelly imposed a two month prison sentence, which he suspended for 12 months on Quinn’s own bond of €250.
