Level 5 extension to delay start of Allianz Leagues

THE 2021 Allianz Leagues will not get underway until the end of March following the extension of Level 5 Covid-19 restrictions.

The Government today announced that Level 5 restrictions will remain in place until at least March 5, when they will be reviewed.

It is not expected that inter-county teams will be permitted to return to collective training prior to March 5.

The GAA’s Covid-19 Advisory committee – which includes Donegal’s Dr Kevin Moran – is to convene early next week.

The Allianz Leagues were originally pencilled in for late February, but they are now set to be delayed by a month.

The Championships, as a consequence, are also to be put back by a month from the intended start date in April.

Meanwhile, the 2021 Championship draws are to be held on the week beginning February 8.
