Another 48 Covid-19 cases have been confirmed in Donegal, NPHET reports this evening.
Fifty-four more people with Covid-19 have died and there are 1,335 new cases of the virus in the Republic.
Fifty of the deaths reported today occurred in January. The age range is 55-96 years.
The number of people being treated in intensive care units with Covid-19 is 217, up one on yesterday.
There have been 81 additional hospitalisations in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of Covid-19 patients in hospitals to 1,670.
Dr Tony Holohan, Chief Medical Officer, Department of Health, is tonight asking people not to ease up on their efforts to stop the spread of the virus: “The current 14 day incidence remains more than double the peak incidence experienced during previous Level 5 measures in October. Therefore, now is not the time to drop your guard and start to interact with people outside your household. The risk of transmission in the community remains very high. We must continue to work towards reducing incidence of disease and preventing further hospitalisations and deaths.”
Donegal has recorded 1,045 new cases of Covid-19 in the past two weeks, which leaves the county’s 14-day incidence rate at 656 per 100,000. The national average is 674 per 100,000.
