Staff at Penneys Letterkenny are about to begin a fun fundraiser for an important cause this February.
Shoppers may be missing their favourite fashion store, but they’ll be glad to hear that the staff are teaming up for a worthwhile wellbeing challenge.
The ‘5K Your Way’ challenge launches on Monday 1st February, which will see members of the 130+ staff team aiming to exercise at home or in their local area throughout the entire month. The only requirement is that there’s 5k involved. That may be a 5km daily distance on foot, bike, Rollerblades or skipping, etc., 5,000 steps, training for a 5km, or lifting 5kg weights.
All money raised will be donated to the store’s charity partner of 2021, Foyle Search and Rescue, in memory of their much-missed colleague Mark Cullen, who passed away in 2020.
Store Manager George Murphy said: “The main reason for this challenge was to engage with everybody and their wellbeing, to encourage people to get out and about and do something active during the lockdown. We are encouraging people to get their families or households involved to participate too, while we raise vital funds for Foyle Search and Rescue at the same time.”
Each year, Penneys staff choose a charity partner to support, but 2021 has proven difficult so far with the store closed under restrictions. The 5K Your Waychallenge overcomes that barrier by bringing the fundraising into the community and allowing people to support online on GoFundMe. More than €1,000 has been raised so far, and it is hoped that staff will be cheered on every step of the way over the next four weeks. Please visit the GoFundMe page here: https://gofund.me/922b4327
All support is greatly appreciated.
