A HEARTBROKEN Donegal mother will run a 10k later this year in memory of her beloved daughter who died in December.
Aimee Devenney, a student at Coláiste Ailigh in Letterkenny, died suddenly on December 15th after suffering an asthma attack, just a month after her 14th birthday.
Now, her mother Michelle is embarking on training for a 10k run to raise money for the Asthma Society of Ireland and Pieta North West, services which Aimee had availed of.
“Everyone knew Aimee as the happy, always smiling, always singing, outgoing girl she was and never would have thought she suffered with mental health issues,” Michelle said.
“What most people don’t know is Aimee also suffered with her mental health, with which she also had hospital admissions.
“We never know who is suffering under the surface. Aimee had a few issues with some people being very unkind to her and this broke my heart as they were making an already difficult time for her even more difficult.
“You just never know how your words or actions can affect someone, no matter how strong or happy they seem.”
Aimee suffered all her life with asthma and underwent treatment in hospital many times.
“This time, they couldn’t save her,” Michelle said.
Aimee’s asthma never stopped her from doing everything she enjoyed.
