Covid deaths in Donegal pass 100 mark

The number of Covid-19 related deaths in Donegal has risen to 107.

Nine more people with the virus passed in the last week of January, CSO figures show.

The median age of those who passed in Donegal is 84. 

The week of 16th January 2021 saw Donegal’s highest number of coronavirus deaths this winter so far, with 15 people passing during this period.

A total of 7,838 cases of Covid-19 were recorded in Donegal up to last week. The median age of all people infected with coronavirus in Donegal is now 39.

The number of confirmed cases in the county has reduced to pre-Christmas figures. There were 206 new cases in Donegal in the week ending 29th January, down from 1,268 four weeks previously. Case figures in Donegal have not been below 200 since the week of 5th December.

CSO analysis shows that the 25-44 age group continues to show the highest number of confirmed COVID-19 cases nationwide at 66,927. However over the last the five weeks the percentage of weekly cases in the over 80 age group has increased from 2.5% of cases to over 9.4% in week ending 29 January.

Since the start of the pandemic, some 10,601 more females were diagnosed with COVID-19 than males.

There were 963 health care workers diagnosed in the week ending 29 January.
