Sinn Feín TD Pearse Doherty says he is not interested in vying for the presidential elections in 2025.
The Donegal TD is not putting his name forward as the party candidate, as he says he is happy to be an elected TD.
Speaking to on Adhmhaidin on RTE Raidió na Gaeltachta, Deputy Doherty revealed his party hasn’t yet discussed candidates for the race to the Áras.
His comments came after unconfirmed reports that North Belfast MP John Finucane may be tipped to be in the running for the party.
But Doherty said he would prefer to spend his time in the Dáil working on party policies and working for his constituents in Donegal. He added that he would like to be re-elected in the next General Election.
Deputy Doherty was too young to run in the last Presidential election, but said he couldn’t know what might happen in the long years ahead.
