Man with hatchet told Gardai “I’m going to kill you”

A man threatened to kill Gardai after running at them armed with a hatchet on a Letterkenny housing estate.

Dominic Dwyer appeared at Letterkenny District Court in connection with the incident which happened on September 7th, 2019.

Gardai were called to the situation at Ros Suilghe and witnesses the 21 year old accused break a window.

He ran at Gardai with the hatchet in his hand shouting “I’m going to kill you b*****rds.”

The young man was restrained and he was later taken into the care of the mental health services.

The court was told he was also under the influence of alcohol on the day.

His solicitor, Mr Kieran Dillon told the court his client was on medication for a mental health condition and that it wasn’t helped by the consumption of alcohol.

He added that he was now seeing a psychiatrist and had also secured work in Dublin.

Mr Dillon said that Dwyer was a young man who needed a lot of structure in his life.

Judge Paul Kelly adjourned the case until May 17th for a probation report in the case.
