THE death has taken place of Clonmany’s ‘Mr Festival’, Hugo Boyce.

Tributes have been paid following Hugo’s passing.

Committee members at the Clonmany Festival say they are ‘deeply saddened’ by the news.

“Hugo was a life time member and friend of The Clonmany Festival,” a statement said.

“We pass our sincere condolences to Lucy and all of Hugo’s family.”

Deputy Padraig Mac Lochlainn called Hugo ‘a giant of the community in Clonmany and Inishowen.’

He said: “He was best known as a leading light in the Clonmany Festival over the years and led it to be one of the most successful community festivals in the country.

“He will also be fondly remembered for his time in the North West Community Radio (NWCR).”

Hugo was a gold medalist at the World Transplant Games.

Hugo won gold medals in Canada (2005), Thailand (2007) and Poland (2014).

Hugo suffered from non-hodgkin lymphoma when he was 19 and spent two years in St Luke’s Hospital from 1969 to 1971, while he also underwent treatment for cancer.
