JOSEPH Duffy has opened up about the mental battles he faced during a memorable mixed martial arts career.

The Burtonport man retired from the sport last July, bowing out of the octagon with a 16-5 record.

Duffy lost to Spaniard lightweight Joel Alvarez at UFC Fight Island 2 in what was his first bout in 16 months.

Duffy defeated Conor McGregor in 2010 in a Cage Warriors Clash and was also a professional boxer, going seven fights unbeaten in 2013.

Duffy appeared on the Top 2 Inches of Sport podcast with host Anthony Sheriff and shred his thoughts about the mental battles, the pre-flight nerves, the set-backs and the triumphs.
