There is positive news in the drop in Covid-19 hospitalisations in Ireland this week.
The HSE has confirmed today that the number of patients with Covid-19 in intensive care is now 99. The total number of Covid-19 hospitalisations is 401. This is the first time since 6th January that the ICU number has been below 100.
At the peak of the third wave in January, 221 patients were recorded as critical with Covid-19. A total of 2,020 people were in hospital with Covid-19 on January 18th.
Before the third wave, ICU numbers peaked at 155 last April.
Letterkenny University Hospital is currently treating one ICU patient with Covid-19. As of 8pm last night, the hospital recorded nine patients with the virus onsite.
HSE CEO Paul Reid said the hospital situation is a ‘great sign’.
“Further protections will happen throughout this weekend as GPs continue to vaccinate more over 80+ year olds,” Mr Reid tweeted.
