Five Covid-19 deaths recorded in Donegal last week

The total number of Covid-19 related deaths in Donegal has risen to 143.

Five people with confirmed Covid-19 passed away in Donegal last week.

The Central Statistics reports that Donegal, Dublin and Cork were the only counties to record more than five deaths in the week ending 5th March.

The median age of those who have died with confirmed Covid-19 in Donegal is 83. 

A total of 8,529 cases of Covid-19 were recorded in Donegal up to last week. The median age of all people affected by the virus in Donegal is 39.

There were 61 new cases in Donegal in the week ending 5th March – representing a 62% decrease compared to the previous week.

CSO analysis of the situation nationwide shows that 51 people with confirmed COVID-19 died in the week ending 5th March. 86% of deaths were among people aged 65 years and over.

There were 114 health care workers diagnosed with the virus in the week ending 05 March, this is the lowest weekly figure since the week ending 28 August.

Hospitalisations have been decreasing since the week ending 15 January and were 173 in the week ending 05 March from a peak of 1,376.

Intensive care unit (ICU) admissions have been decreasing since the week ending 08 January and there were less than five in the week ending 05 March down from a peak of 130.
