Sadness at passing of well-known sportsman Patsy James

There is a huge outpouring of sadness following the passing of well-known and much-loved Letterkenny Man Patsy James.

A talented sportsman all his life, Patsy passed away at Letterkenny University Hospital.

A butcher by trade, Patsy was known across Ireland for his sporting prowess in several fields including boxing, table tennis, snooker, golf and bowls.

He was also a keen quizmaster and set questions for many quizzes in his native Letterkenny and around the county.

Born into a popular family at Ballymacool, Patsy was married to beloved wife Olive and was a kind and loving father to children to Pauric, Marian, Catherine, Denis and Cathal

Tributes have poured in from many quarters for Patsy including a tribute from St Eunans CYMS Snooker Club of which Patsy was Honourary President.

Messages of sympathy have also come in from his many friends across Ireland including Table Tennis Ireland of which he was a huge part in the 1980s.

He will also be sadly missed by his daughters in law Lavinia and Heather, Cathal’s partner Ana, adoring grandchildren Dean, Ashleigh, Ryan, Saoirse, Caolan, Cillian, Kyle, Luke, Leah and Sophie, great-granddaughters Clodagh and Zara, brothers Tom, Cathal, Paul and Kevin, sister in law Brid, nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was predeceased by his parents Tom and Kathleen, brother Ackie, sister Mary, sisters in law Liz and Chrissie.

Funeral Mass will take place in St Eunan’s Cathedral on Sunday, 14th March, at 12 noon. Interment after to Conwal Cemetery.

In compliance with current HSE and government guidelines, the house, funeral and burial will be strictly private to the family only please with a maximum of 10 people only.

Rest in peace, Patsy. A gentleman in the best sense of the word who was proud of his Donegal roots.
