Local weather presenter Darren Ó Dubhgáin is swapping channels to celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge.

Ó Dubhgáin, a native of Gort an Choirce, joined Aimsir TG4 last year.

Today, he’ll be hopping over to RTE with his colleagues Fiona Ní Fhlaithearta and Donncha Ó Murchú to swap roles with Nuala Carey, Karina Buckley and Helen Curran.

Because of Covid-19 travel restrictions, they won’t be able to travel, but the segments will be recorded in TG4 and RTÉ or close to the presenters homes.

On TG4’s main weather bulletin at 18:57 before Nuacht TG4, TG4’s Darren Ó Dubhgáin will present from TG4’s HQ in Baile na hAbhann before handing over to RTÉ’s Nuala Carey in Dún Laoghaire and Karina Buckley who will be at Áras an Uachtaráin.

On RTÉ One News and Weather Helen Curran will begin the bulletin and handover to TG4’s Fiona Ní Fhlaithearta who will be at the scenic Túr Chamuis in Connemara. Fiona will then handover to Donncha Ó Murchú who will be in Salthill.

Fiona Ní Fhlaithearta An Aimsir Láithreach TG4 said “This is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge in a unique way and to exhibit the long standing friendship between TG4 and RTÉ.”

Karina Buckley, RTÉ Weather said “I’m looking forward to using my cúpla focal as part of this year’s Weather Swap for Seachtain na Gaeilge. Level 5 restrictions mean that I won’t get to the home of Irish language broadcasting at Baile na hAbhann this year but I will get to present from outside the residence of its main architect, President Michael D. Higgins. With a bit of luck, we may even catch a glimpse of the first madraí Bród & Misneach!”
