GARDAÍ have confirmed that €2.8million worth of cocaine was seized in Donegal last night.

Officers from the Milford District Drugs Unit carried out an intelligence led operation.

Examinations of a vehicle resulted in the seizure of 41kg of a substance believed to cocaine with an estimated street value of €2,800,000.

It is understood that the stash was found concealed in the panels of a van believed to have come in from the UK.

A spokesperson from the Garda Press Office told Donegal Daily: “Investigating Gardaí at Milford are liaising with the Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau and the Police Service of Northern Ireland in respect of this investigation.”

Milford Garda Superintendent David Kelly, who is leading the investigation, said: “This significant seizure has reduced the supply of illegal drugs in our community thereby increasing community safety.”

There have been no arrests made yet in connection with the seizure.
