March 18, 2021

A MAN detected driving at an ‘insane’ speed has avoided a disqualification.

Ryan Brennan (19) of Geevagh, Sligo, was before Letterkenny District Court in relation to the incident.

On July 23, 2020, Brennan was detected driving a 5 Series BMW at 173km/h at Dromore, Letterkenny.

The road is governed by a speed limit of 100km/h.

Brennan was charged with dangerous driving.

Brennan told the Court that the car belonged to his sister.

“Tell her not to lend it to you in future,” Judge Paul Kelly said.

Solicitor Mr Patsy Gallagher said his client was driving the car to be serviced at the time.

Judge Kelly fined Brennan €200 and gave him four months to pay.

Judge Kelly told the defendant: “I won’t disqualify you this time around. Consider yourself very lucky.”
