This is the dramatic moment armed Gardai arrested a man at Lower Main Street in Letterkenny.

The arrest followed a stand-off which lasted more than two hours at a property off Convent Road in the town.

A man known to Gardai is understood to have locked himself into a house and Gardai became worried for his safety.

A number of Gardai including members of the Armed Support Unit blocked off the area as the dramatic scene unfolded.

Local workers were also asked to remove their cars.

However, shortly after midday the man came out of the house and was arrested by Gardai at Lower Main Street.

The man has been arrested and brought to Letterkenny Garda station.
