A speeding driver intercepted by gardaí this evening subsequently tested positive for drugs.
The detection was made in the Burnfoot area this Friday evening.
Gardaí were first alerted to the driver due to their speed. A roadside drugs test was then carried out, which revealed the presence of cannabis in the driver’s system.
A court appearance will now follow.
Gardaí are urging people this weekend to slow down and “never ever drive while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.”
Meanwhile, Buncrana Roads Policing Unit caught a number of motorists going well above the 80km/h limit in the Clonmany area today. Drivers were clocked at speeds of 125km/h, 123km/h and 109km/h.
Gardaí took to Facebook to say: “Please slow down! Speed kills.”
