Volunteers with Lough Swilly RNLI have thanked the public and local kayakers for their assistance in a search off Buncrana last night.
The incident is now being classed as a false alarm with good intent.
Two RNLI lifeboats, the Irish Coast Guard and Gardaí were called to a search in the water off Buncrana Pier on Sunday evening.
The alarm was first raised at 7.20pm following reports of missing people off Lisfannon Beach.
After almost three hours of searching, there was no further cause for concern and both lifeboats and the helicopter were stood down by the Irish Coast Guard.
Commenting after the incident, a spokesperson for RNLI Lough Swilly said: “We would to thank members of the public and the kayakers who assisted us this evening.
“Remember if you see someone in difficulty or you require assistance in the water please dial 112 or 999 and ask for the Coast Guard.”
