IT IS expected that the number of home care hours to clients in Donegal will exceed one million in 2021.

The HSE has confirmed that a total of 784,040 home care hours were provided in 2020.

Additional funding has been allocated this year, which will allow for an increase in the provision of home care/

Responding to a query from Councillor Gerry Crawford at the is month’s Regional Health Forum West meeting, John Hayes, the Chief Officer for CHO1 said there would be an increase in the hours provided this year.

“It will probably increase to a million in 2021,” he said, “when you take into account the winter funding for this year and what is likely to happen at the latter end of this year.

“We are trying to recruit home support workers across the five counties in CHO1 and we do utilise private providers where we don’t have sufficient capacity in our own system.”

Mr Hayes said the HSE wanted a practical solution to deliver hours in the locations where they are most needed.
