Carndonagh quarry gets go ahead – despite objections

Planning permission has been granted for the continuation of a quarry near Carndonagh, despite local objections.

Donegal County Council gave the go-ahead to Jim Bar for the development in the townlands of Carrowmore and Glentogher.

The proposed works include the ‘retention’ of existing quarrying of rock, use of an access road, further extraction of rock by blasting and processing of the stone on site.

An objection lodged against the application by a local couple who claimed the blasting of rock down to a level of 150 metres would damage their home.

They stated that previous blasting caused their house ‘to shake.’ In addition, they had concerns over noise and damage to the local environment.

In granting permission for 15 years, the council said all works must be carried out in strict accordance with the lodged plans. Planners also stated the quarry can only operate between the hours of 8am to 7pm, Monday to Friday, and from 8-4pm on Saturdays.
