The Bishop of Raphoe has urged people not to “rush” into organising First Communions and Confirmations when Covid restrictions are lifted.
Bishop Alan McGuckian was responding to queries by Donegal Daily about the holding of the sacraments in the coming weeks.
Bishop McGuckian said that the matter will be kept under review when Covid restrictions are lifted and churches are opened again.
However, it now appears that First Communions and Confirmations will not take place in the diocese in for immediate future.
The Bishop stated “At the Spring meeting the Irish Episcopal Conference the bishops recommended the postponement of the sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation ceremonies for the time being.
“In the interests of supporting public health messaging, it is important that we should not rush into organising these sacraments as soon as these restrictions on public worshipping are lifted.
“The diocese will keep the situation under review.”
