Department says ALL secondary school pupils to return on April 12th

All secondary school pupils are on course to return to classes on April 12th, the Department of Education has confirmed.

This will be the final phase of the reopening of schools and will see first to fourth year students return.

In a letter to second level schools, the department reaffirmed the Government’s intention that all students will return to school after the Easter Break on 12 April.

It said the Department of Education, the Department of Health and the HSE are monitoring and reviewing the operation of schools on an ongoing basis and keeping infection prevention and control measures under review.

Social distancing of 50% capacity has now been achieved on virtually all routes on school transport.

However, there are concerns about a spike over the Easter breaks with many primary schools sending children home with all their books as a precaution in case they don’t return.

Schools closed today for the Easter Break amid some nervousness and uncertainty around reopening.
