We’re just days away from the official start of summer time, but residents in parts of Donegal could be forgiven for thinking it’s winter again.
A light coating of snow has fallen on higher ground across the county this morning. There are reports of snow in Letterkenny, Meenaroy and Ardara.
The spring snow is expected to clear quickly and turn to rain. But there is a risk of more wintry weather this afternoon, as Met Eireann warns some showers will be heavy with hail, sleet and isolated thunderstorms.
“By evening, some will fall as snow over high ground,” forecasters said.
“Highest temperatures of 6 to 8 degrees but quickly becoming colder through the afternoon, with an added wind chill factor in fresh to strong and gusty west to southwest winds.”
Tonight will see showers continuing, with some heavy rain and hail, sleet and snow.
Temperatures will drop to lows of -1C, bringing a risk of frost in sheltered areas.
