FINTRA Beach is to get its first beach wheelchair this summer.

Killybegs-based Independent Councillor Niamh Kennedy has confirmed that funding has been secured for the wheelchair.

Fintra will become the seventh Donegal beach to welcome a beach wheelchair. Already, beach wheelchairs are accessible at Rathmullan, Downings, Carrickfinn, Marblehill, Rossnowlagh and Narin/Portnoo.

“This will be a very welcome addition to our Blue Flag beach,” Cllr Kennedy said.

“This wheelchair will arrive during the summer and with proper regard to the Covid19 guidelines.

“This is going to be of great assistance to families of wheelchair users.”

Meanwhile, a height restriction barrier is also to be installed soon on the approach road to Fintra. Cllr Kennedy has been liaising with local residents and Donegal County Council staff to enable access for emergency service vehicles.
