New walk-in Covid-19 test centres announced – but none in Donegal

A NUMBER of new walk-in Covid-19 test centres are being established this week – but Donegal is not included among the locations.

Health Minister Stephen Donnelly has announced several locations for walk-in test centres.

The test centres for symptomatic people are being established at Fingal Education and Training Board, Quay Street Car Park Fingal, Navan O’Mahony’s GAA Club, Crumlin GAA, Athlone Regional Sports Centre and Ballinasloe Town Hall/Library Car Park.

Donnelly has also said that another venue in Kildare is being ‘finalised’ and full details will be announced by the HSE.

With Donegal’s cases numbers remaining high – there were 31 new infections confirmed by health officials today – there have been calls for a new centre to be established in the county.

At Monday’s meeting of Donegal County Council, Cathaoirleach Rena Donaghey called or a pop-up test centre to be included in Inishowen.

“This way, we would find a larger proportion of the real numbers with COVID-19,” Cllr Donaghey told this month’s county council meeting.

“I know this is a fluid situation and the statistics go up and down.

“Until we have a higher number vaccinated we need to be incredibly cautious, we need to be sensible and we don’t need to increase the risk of interaction.”
