Donegal County Council has been asked to take the lead on establishing wildflower gardens in all council-owned estates.
Such projects could be a win-win for the local authority and residents, according to Councillor Patrick McGowan.
Cllr McGowan has suggested that turning large green areas into biodiversity gardens will have multiple benefits for everyone. He said that wildflower gardens would save residents associations and this Council “a small fortune cutting acres of grass every year as well as benefiting nature through pollination and providing areas for nature to flourish”.
Cllr McGowan suggested that a horticulturalist could be assigned to lead out the project and carry out maintenance as needed.
