New Killygordon mast is about ‘enhancing services’

Communications giant eir says its new telephone mast in Killygordon is about ‘enhancing services’ in the area.

The company was responding to last week’s article on Daily Daily when some local residents raised concerns over the 12 metre structure which is currently under construction.

The mast will be erected at the telephone exchange on Railway Road, in the centre of the village

An eir spokesperson said planning permission was not needed for the structure as it is ‘exempted development’, a fact confirmed by Donegal County Council.

“Over the last year, eir has actively developed new sites to enhance and resolve mobile coverage blackspots across every county in Ireland,” they explained.

“eir is carrying out development at Killygordon Exchange, as exempted development for telecommunications services under the Planning and Development Regulations Act. The development will form part of the eir mobile network focussed on enhancing services in Killygordon and surrounding area.”
