Management admit ‘unauthorised’ Easter Mass at LUH broke Covid guidelines

MANAGEMENT at Letterkenny University Hospital have admitted that an unauthorised Easter Mass was held in the hospital chapel.

The Mass was celebrated last weekend in contravention to public health measures regarding Covid-19.

Under Level 5 restrictions, religious services are to be held online and places of worship are to be open for private prayer only.

However, a crowd was present at the hospital chapel last weekend when Mass was celebrated.

“Easter Mass was celebrated in the hospital chapel contrary to current government guidelines and without authorisation,” a spokesperson for the Saolta University Health Care Group told Donegal Daily.

“The hospital can confirm that no further religious services will take place in the chapel while the country is at level 5 and that the chapel will remain open for private prayer only until the guidelines advise on the recommencement of religious services.

“We regret that there was non-compliance with government guidelines.

Specific questions on the matter from this website surrounding the planning and organisation of the Mass have not been responded to by the group.

The Raphoe Diocese have not returned a request for comment on the matter.
