The start of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan was marked at today’s meeting of the Inishowen Municipal District (MD).

Mayor of the MD, Councillor Albert Doherty, opened the meeting by mentioning Ramadan.

The festival involves a month of fasting – believers taking part will not eat or drink anything during daylight hours – and prayer. It is considered one of the holiest Islamic months.

The Councillor began the meeting with: “Before we start, I would like to extend greetings to member of the Muslim community who start Ramadan today. There are many Muslims who are new members of the community on the Inishowen Peninsula and welcome them.”
