Parks in Letterkenny could see new wardens patrol them in the summer months.
With the town’s two main parks being used more and more, a motion has been put forward to appoint wardens to the parks.
The parks include the Bernard McGlinchey Town Park and Ballymacool Park.
The issue was raised at today’s meeting of the Letterkenny/Milford Municipal Authority.
Councillor Jimmy Kavanagh said he feels that the appointment of wardens will keep the parks up to the high standards being enjoyed by the public.
“It’s a matter of having someone there with authority and with a certain amount of presence to stop any unruly behaviour,” he said.
He added that an outside security staff employed at the parks as well as maintenance staff were working hard but specific wardens were needed to look after the parks.
He added that similar appointments have been made in parks in other council areas around the country.
The motion was second by Cllr Ciaran Brogan who said the “fabulous” parks were used by young and old alike and were amongst the best in the country.
He said the motion was timely and it should be revisited so that wardens can be appointed.
