Outrage at gang’s night of vandalism in Buncrana

Gardai in Donegal are hunting three men who went on the rampage during which they damaged cars with a stolen forklift truck and attacked a children’s charity.

The men undertook the evening of destruction on Saturday night last, April 10th in the Buncrana area between 8pm and 11pm.

The vandals caused damage to three different properties which were all located in the same area at Looking Glass Brae.

The first incident happened at a business premises at around 9pm when the men took a forklift truck and damaged four cars which were parked in the vicinity of the business.

The men then set upon the iCare children’s autism support centre.

The gang destroyed a number of playground features at the centre leaving families outraged at the attack.

A spokesperson for the centre said “If only they knew how much our young people love this place and how much work has gone into making it such a great centre.

“Who gives them the right to break and destroy things?

“If only they knew how difficult it was for us to get funds to purchase equipment.”

In the last incident, windows were smashed in another premises.

Garda Grainne Doherty condemned all three attacks but said the attack on the children’s playground was “particularly despicable.”

“All three attacks are bad but the fact that they attacked a children centre for young people with autism is just despicable,” she said.

She appealed for anybody who may have been in the area at the time of any of the attacks, between 8pm and 11pm on April 10th, to contact Buncrana Gardai.

She also appealed for anybody who may have dashcam footage of the area at the time to get in contact.
