A Letterkenny Tidy Towns volunteer has called for community support after lifting 30 bags of rubbish from one road in one week.

John Wilkie has been carrying out a major clean-up of the busy dual carriageway. In one week, he has amassed a huge amount of rubbish, including tyres, advertisement signs, pizza boxes, and countless coffee cups.

Tidy Towns volunteers have also been picking up litter at Mountain Top, Ballyraine, Lisnennan, Glencar, Killylastin, Pole Star, Long Lane in the past week.

There has a been a big push from all local areas, including Newtowncunningham and Manorcunningham.

Volunteers are asking that their hard work does not go to waste and are urging people to dispose of their waste responsibly. They are also inviting more volunteers to play their part in keeping their local areas looking great.

“Trying to keep Letterkenny Tidy is not an easy job with all the illegal dumping going on out there,” John said.

“We are still active with Tidy Towns during the crisis, and with so many people out of work, we would like to encourage others to join up and give back.”

If you would like to help keep your area nice and clean, please contact Letterkenny Tidy Towns via Facebook or by email lktidy@gmail.com. Bags, high vis, gloves and grabbers will be provided free of charge.

“It’s up to you whether to do a once off, once in a while or make it a regular thing. It all helps, and your help is very much appreciated!”

Vests are provided to volunteers free of charge
