A man was arrested in Muff following a garda pursuit through Inishowen this afternoon.
The man, aged in his 20s, has been charged with dangerous driving and drink driving.
A pursuit is believed to have started in Malin and ended with a serious collision in Muff at approx 2.30pm.
The crash sparked a security incident in Muff, where part of Main Street was closed.
It is reported that gardaí were first alerted to a car being driven erratically in North Inishowen earlier this afternoon. Gardaí pursued the car to Carndonagh and Quigley’s Point. It is understood that the suspect vehicle was picked up again by an unmarked car, and followed into the village of Muff.
The suspect car eventually crashed into another vehicle. The vehicles mounted a footpath and crashed into a building on Main Street.
A number of vehicles, including two official Garda vehicles, were damaged during the incident.
One male was treated at the scene for their injuries.
Traffic management is in place in Muff as fire services and gardaí investigate the incident.
Local Councillor Terry Crossan said: “This is a very serious situation. Miraculously there were no injuries. I am expecting a full investigation into the events.”
The arrested man is due to appear before a special sitting of Letterkenny District Court at 7:30pm this evening.
