Donegal residents could be in for a treat tonight as the northern lights are forecast to put on a show in the sky.
Astronomy Ireland has predicted a ‘big display’ of the aurora borealis over Ireland this Sunday.
An immense eruption from the sun is sweeping past Earth, which allows the northern lights to be more visible further south than usual.
Donegal’s north coast has the advantage of facing the clear Atlantic and being furthest away from lit-up areas. The advice is to look for a glow in the north.
The amazing scenes should be visible to the naked eye as a white glow on the northern horizon if the skies are clear enough and if the moon does not impact views.
