Gardaí called to ‘highly organised’ west Donegal beach party

Gardaí were called out this morning following an illegal party at a popular west Donegal beach.

The overnight camp in dunes at Magheraroarty Beach consisted of up to ten Northern Ireland registered off-road vehicles, tents and campfires.

One local resident, who did not wish to be named, claimed the event was highly organised.

“The camp was based in a secluded dune, well out of sight,” the resident said.

“When others arrived, one man in a jeep left the camp to bring them to the location. It was highly organised and we called out the guards.”

Not only are outside organised gatherings still not allowed under Covid-19 restrictions, camping is also banned at the popular beach.

The local also claimed the party goers were engaging in antisocial behaviour.

“Yesterday evening three jeeps drove abreast up the beach while people were out walking, it was pure madness,” he said.

The man said that four more jeeps arrived this morning in an attempt to join the camp, however, they were turned away by Gardaí.
