The number of critical Covid-19 patients in Ireland has fallen to its lowest level since December 30th 2020.
There are currently 39 patients with the virus in ICUs in Ireland – down from the January peak of 221.
One patient with Covid-19 was recorded in ICU in Letterkenny University Hospital last night. There are currently six patients with the virus being treated at LUH. The hospital had 36 general care beds available and three critical care beds unoccupied last night.
NPHET’s Professor Phillip Nolan said Ireland’s incidence appears to be stabilizing after the 12 April reopening.
Prof Nolan said the number of tests done this weekend was higher than recent weekends
“The numbers in hospital and ICU are decreasing, albeit slowly, with an average of 10-15 new admissions per day.
“If we remain careful, keeping our contacts low, meeting outdoors, taking precautions to reduce risk (distance, masks, hand hygiene and ventilation) and self-isolating if symptomatic, we can enjoy the next few weeks without significantly increasing transmission.”
