GARDAÍ in Donegal are investigating a spate of thefts of car registration plates at the weekend.

Offices are probing separate incidents in Castlefin, Lifford and Buncrana, all of which occurred on Saturday last, May 8.

At around 5pm, a woman returned to her car in a carpark on the Lifford Road, Castlefin, and discovered a male in dark clothing with his hood up attempting to remove the registration plates.

Around 40 minutes later, at Braide, Lifford, the owner of a car found a male in dark clothing removing the registration plates. When approached, the male got into a dark coloured Passat and took off at speed. Both registration plates were stolen.

At 5.45pm at Elaghbeg, Burnfoot, a group of males were spotted taking registration plates from a car.

Gardaí have appealed for any information regarding these incidents.

“If people notice any suspicious activity, day or night, please contact us,” a Garda spokesperson said.

“Even a small piece of information that may seem irrelevant may be a vital piece of information to help us solve a crime. Please keep an eye out and be vigilant.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Letterkenny Garda Station at 074-9167100; Milford Garda Station at 074-9153060; Buncrana Garda Station at 074-9320540; Ballyshannon Garda Station at o74-9858530; or the Garda Confidential Line 1800-666-111.
