Today has been hailed as an important and historic day for Donegal and the Fermanagh & Omagh District Councils following the first meeting of a cross-border working group.
The group was formed this year to bring county councillors from the Donegal MD and Stranorlar/Lifford MD together with the Fermanagh and Omagh District Council to explore issues such as water and waste water, rivers, infrastructure and tourism.
Donegal Councillor Michael Naughton, who first proposed the group in February, said it would be an understatement to say he was honoured to Chair the first meeting.
“Our working partnership going forward will be for the betterment of the area. Together, we will work on tourism, greenways, infrastructure, community wellbeing and our rural towns and villages,” Cllr Naugton said.
“I want to welcome the positive response to today’s first meeting and I look forward to meeting again this year and seeing what we can achieve in the years to come.”
The committee’s Terms & Conditions are being drawn up and it is expected that councillors will meet four to five times per year going forward.
