Donegal county councillor Gerry McMonagle has slammed the HSE for not having a ‘Plan B’ following the hacking of their computer system.
Cllr McMonagle, who is a member of the Regional Health Forum West said the hack had crippled the Irish health system.
It follows the significant ransomware attack which has forced the HSE to shut its IT systems this morning.
Cllr McMOnagle said “We have taken the precaution of shutting down all our IT systems in order to protect them from this attack and to allow us fully assess the situation with our own security partners,” said a statement.
He added “I just can’t believe that there is no plan B for an organisation the size of the HSE. Surely they knew this was always a possibility one day.
“We have a situation where patients can’t be released from hospital and consultants can’t access files. It’s not good enough.
“What are we to tell people in hospital?
“I will be seeking further clarification from Saolta on this matter. This can’t be allowed to happen again.”
