A county councillor has hit out at those responsible for allegedly dumping two dead sheep over a cliff.
The animal carcasses were discovered at Na Beanna Gorma, a scenic coastal part of Gaoth Dobhair.
Local councillor Michael Cholm Mac Giolla Easbuig claims this is an act of ‘total disrespect’.
“It’s bad in terms of the environment, but we have to remember they are animals too,” he said.
“This occurred in a beautiful part of the world. Whoever has done this has shown total disrespect to the whole community and to the animals themselves. Would we want to be just thrown over the side of the cliff when we die?”
The Department of Agriculture guidance on livestock carcasses says it is the responsibility of the landowner to dispose of the carcasses. Illegal dumping, as environmental contamination, may be investigated by Local Authorities.
