SDLP MLA Cara Hunter has issued a public apology after travelling to Donegal for a holiday last weekend.
Ms Hunter, an assembly member for East Derry, shared photos on Facebook of herself in a campervan and having a beer on the beach.
However, the trip was a breach of guidelines from the NI Executive, which advises against all non-essential travel inside or outside Northern Ireland.
Ms Hunter is the SDLP’s spokesperson on health.
While it is not law, the Stormont health committee has appealed to the public not to travel across the border for leisure purposes.
The issue has led Ms Hunter to apologise on radio.
“Over the weekend, I travelled to Donegal in self-contained accommodation,” Cara Hunter said in a statement to Radio Ulster’s Stephen Nolan Show.
“I recognise that what I did was not a breach of the Covid regulations the travel was not in line with the Executive’s guidance – I want to sincerely apologise for making a mistake.”
