‘Music man’ abused Gardai after report of loud tunes

May 19, 2021

A BALLYBOFEY man appeared in court after reports of loud music playing at his home.

Adrian McMenamin appeared at Letterkenny District Court charged in connection with an incident on January 5, 2021.

Gardaí responded to reports of loud music being played at the house at Glenpatrick Park, Ballybofey.

Further reports were made of an intoxicated male in the middle of the street shouting.

Sergeant Jim Collins said that McMenamin was ‘highly intoxicated’ when Gardaí arrived at 3.10am, but he agreed to turn off the music.

However, 15 minutes later a further call was made and this time McMenamin began shouting abuse at Gardai.

McMenamin, a 49-year-old coach driver, came in to apologise, Sgt Collins said.

“It’s easy to come and apologise, isn’t it?” said Judge Alan Mitchell.

Mr Patsy Gallagher, solicitor for McMenamin, said his client, who has no previous convictions, was ‘deeply embarrassed’ by the incident.

Judge Mitchell said if McMenamin made a €200 donation to the Donegal Hospice he would not impose a conviction.

Judge Mitchell said: “If a similar incident were to happen again, I would recommend that Gardai not give a second chance.”
