Gardai have sealed off an area in a forest outside Ballybofey after the discovery of bones beneath an upturned tree.

The grim discovery was made yesterday near the Meenbog wind farm.

It has not been established if the bones are part of a human or animal skeleton.

The area has been sealed off by Gardai and the State Pathologists office has been informed of the find.

It is expected the remains will be examined to determine if they are human.

This will decide what course the Garda investigation will take.

A Garda spokesperson told Donegal Daily “Gardaí were alerted to the discovery of bones in a forest in Ballybofey, Co. Donegal today 19th May 2021.

“The scene is currently preserved for a technical examination. The State Pathologists Office have also been notified.”
