New website to inspire your next Donegal beach trip

A sunny weekend is on the way and Donegal’s beaches are set to be a popular destination for many.

A new website is here to help you decide where to explore next.

DonegalBeaches.com features maps and information on 58 of the county’s most fabulous beaches. You’ll find helpful information on parking, tidal times and weather for each location.

The website was a labour of love for Donegal Town man, Ian McClay, who has been researched and working on the self-funded project since April 2020. And yet, there are still some hidden beaches that the site has yet to discover, he said.

Ian writes: “In creating this site we have learned a great deal. All beaches are not the same. Some are for families who want safe bathing and sandcastles. Some are for walkers and shallow paddling. Some are for surfers and serious swimmers. You can ride horses on some and drive your car on the beach on others.

“One thing they all have in common is the feeling you get when you look out on the ocean from a sandy beach with the rugged Donegal coastline as a backdrop. You can forget your worries and get as close to nature and as far away from modern life as is easily possible.

“Don’t take our word for it, come and discover Donegal. It’s in our DNA.”
